The relevant bill was tabled by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah today. The special status of the region is enshrined in Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

Earlier, NDTV channel, citing sources, said that the Indian government is sending additional armed forces to the disputed Kashmir region, here talking about about 8 thousand military personnel.

Representatives of the military forces were transported by military transport aircraft to the north of the country from various regions. Last week, about 35 thousand additional soldiers were transferred to the region.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the only Indian state with a majority Muslim population, there are active separatists advocating independence or joining Pakistan.

At the same time, there is currently no official border between India and Pakistan in Kashmir - the armies of the two countries are separated by a line of control. New Delhi accuses the Pakistani government of supporting armed separatists. Islamabad denies these allegations, saying that Kashmiris are fighting for their rights independently.
