Reuters reported that on September 28, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted to extend an international investigation into human rights in Yemen, despite strong opposition from Yemen and Saudi Arabia. With 21 votes in favor, 8 votes against and 18 abstentions, the UN resolution allowed the panel of experts mandated by the UN Human Rights Council to continue the investigation for another year.
Supporters of the resolution, including Canada and the European Union, argued that a panel of experts commissioned by the council last year still had a mandate to work in Yemen, but opponents said the investigation would worsen the crisis and increase instability in the region.

After a 20-year legal battle, the Supreme Court of India on September 28 overturned the ban on women entering the Ayyappa Temple at the Sabarimala pilgrimage center in Kerala state. The ruling shows a more open mindset in this society of 1.25 billion people, which still has a patriarchal mindset.
Ayyappa Temple has a tradition of banning all women between the ages of 10 and 50 from entering. This rule stems from the inherent backward thinking in India that girls and women are "unclean."
