According to Middle Eastern media, the Syrian army took control of two small but important towns in Northern Aleppo on the night of December 20 after the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) withdrew from the two towns.

These are the two towns of Harbal and Um Vohoush, located south of the town of Mare'a, in northern Aleppo.

Previously, the SDF held several meetings with Syrian army commanders and the two sides reached an agreement to return some areas controlled by the SDF to Damascus government forces.

Earlier, Arab armed groups in the northern Syrian province of Hasaka asked the Syrian army to deploy troops at the border with Türkiye, after Ankara threatened to launch a large-scale attack on Kurdish fighters on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

In addition, Kurdish militias also held separate meetings with Arab armed groups in Hasaka, Raqqa and Aleppo provinces to convince them to join the fight against the Turkish army.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to launch an operation against the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers a "terrorist offshoot" of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The YPG is the main component of the SDF alliance consisting of Arab and Kurdish armed groups./.
