Relations between the US and Israel are on the verge of collapse.

Relations between the US and its longtime ally Israel are being pushed to the brink of collapse as Washington announced on March 19th that it would "reassess" bilateral relations and publicly warned it might withdraw its protection of the Jewish state at the United Nations.

An official statement from the White House said that in a congratulatory phone call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his re-election, US President Barack Obama reaffirmed Washington's commitment to pursuing a two-state solution to the relationship between Israel and Palestine.

A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. president sent a strong message about the current tensions in U.S.-Israel relations, stating that the U.S. would "reassess" its options in the bilateral alliance as well as in its Middle East foreign policy.

However, President Obama also affirmed that he values ​​the close bilateral security partnership and that both sides agreed to continue consultations to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Earlier that day, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters that the Obama administration might consider withdrawing the diplomatic "shield" that Washington has pursued for decades over Israel at the United Nations.

Earnest asserted that the two-state solution of Israel and Palestine, which the US has been pursuing at the United Nations forum, is the best way to resolve the tensions in the volatile Middle East region.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's last-minute declaration during the election campaign that he would not negotiate the establishment of an independent Palestinian state forced Washington to reassess its future course.
