In a statement, Ms. Nauert stated: "The United States, along with European allies and partners, condemns the 'fraudulent' November 11 election in the Russian-controlled eastern Ukraine region. We share a common view of opposing violations of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
According to a representative of the US State Department, Washington will continue to impose sanctions on Moscow until Russia fully implements the Minsk peace agreement.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron also criticized the Donbass elections as undermining Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Kiev officials said they would not recognize the election results.
The Kremlin said Russia understands the purpose of the elections of the self-proclaimed republics in Ukraine, because these regions have been abandoned by Ukraine./.
