Military Region 4: Establishment of the 873rd Water Transport Brigade

(Baonghean.vn) -On April 11th, the Logistics Department of Military Region 4 held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish the 873rd Water Transport Brigade. General Phung Quang Thanh, Member of the Political Bureau and Minister of National Defense; and Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and Head of the General Political Department, sent congratulatory flower arrangements.

Attending the ceremony were Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Military Region; Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province; representatives from agencies of the Ministry of National Defense; the head of the Military Region Command, representatives from agencies and units under the Military Region; representatives from units and leaders of local governments in the area where the troops are stationed.

Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong presented the Victory Banner to the commander of the 873rd Water Transport Brigade.

The Water Transport Brigade under the Logistics Department of Military Region 4 was established according to Decision 250/QD-BQP, dated January 25, 2014, of the Ministry of National Defense, with the designation Brigade 873; based on the reorganization of the Water Transport Company, the Ship Repair Workshop, and the 873 Logistics Station under the Logistics Department of Military Region 4. The Brigade's nhiệm vụ include training, combat readiness, and training of reserve forces; ensuring the transportation of logistical supplies, technical equipment, vehicles, weapons, and materials to islands within Military Region 4 and offshore islands when required; transporting officials and civilians for inspection and visits to the islands; sea and river transport and port services; repairing military vessels and other watercraft; and developing island and coastal tourism when conditions permit. They participate in inspection and control activities, forming the core of the maritime militia force, and are involved in the struggle to protect maritime sovereignty and islands within Military Region 4; they are ready to participate in search and rescue operations in the event of natural disasters such as storms and floods within Military Region 4 and surrounding areas.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Minister of National Defense, Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong presented the Victory Banner and delivered a speech assigning tasks to the Brigade.
