(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of June 6th, in Vinh City, the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department and the Department of Information and Communications jointly organized a regular monthly meeting for June 2013 to evaluate journalistic activities in the province during May and to implement propaganda tasks for June. Comrade To Hong Hai, Standing Committee Member and Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, and Ho Quang Thanh, Director of the Department of Information and Communications, chaired the meeting.

In May, information and propaganda work, as well as the implementation of the Press Law in the area, achieved several important results. Notably, the dissemination of information was well-directed and highlighted key political, current affairs, and cultural events such as: activities commemorating the 123rd anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth; the conference summarizing two years of implementing Directive 03 of the Politburo and commending exemplary individuals who studied and followed Ho Chi Minh's moral example; the courageous act of selflessly saving five children by Youth Union member Nguyen Van Nam; pressing issues arising in socio-economic life, especially the issue of illegal mineral exploitation; and the significant losses suffered by farmers due to the BC 15 rice variety having empty grains.

In May, 12 localities and 4 units responded to 32 issues raised by the press. However, some issues mentioned by the press have not been fully addressed, such as: environmental pollution; inadequacies in stabilizing people's lives in resettlement areas; encroachment on sidewalks and roads in Vinh City; oversized and overloaded vehicles; and violations in the implementation of state policies and laws, etc.

During the conference, media representatives discussed the need to direct responsible agencies and units to thoroughly address the issues raised in the press, overcoming the tendency to evade or handle matters in a reactive manner that complicates public opinion; and to organize dissemination of information so that organizations and individuals seriously fulfill their rights and obligations to provide information and respond to press reports, avoiding situations where some officials and civil servants lack full understanding and therefore do not facilitate reporters' work.

The conference also heard representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Hoang Mai Cement Joint Stock Company provide information on several issues of concern to readers, especially the issue of BC15 rice variety having empty grains in the spring crop of 2013, the disease situation in livestock and poultry, and the collection of forestry land certificates from some businesses carrying out projects in violation of regulations.

Speaking at the conference, Comrade To Hong Hai highly appreciated the results achieved in the information and propaganda work of the press agencies as well as the handling of issues raised by the press by relevant agencies; at the same time, he clarified some issues of concern to the press agencies; noted that press agencies need to enhance their role and responsibility in effectively implementing the 8 key propaganda contents in June, overcoming duplication, lack of objectivity and honesty in propaganda; and at the same time, they need to focus on doing well in activities commemorating the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day on June 21st to encourage and motivate the team of press officials to continue contributing to the socio-economic development of the homeland and the country.
