Corrupt Chinese Official 'Falls From His Horse' Because His Wife and Children Take Advantage of His Power to Extort Money
Many corrupt Chinese officials have been exposed in the "anti-corruption" campaign because of their wives and children's abuse of power.
In fact, many corrupt officials do so to give their families a better life. However, once they go astray, they go further and further wrong. Many people not only trade power and money in the front door, but also condone their wives, children, and relatives to collect money and receive gifts in the back door. In some cases, children also take advantage of their parents' influence to do business for profit and gain unjust wealth.
"Family tradition is ruined", the whole family is in trouble with the law
In October 2015, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) used the phrase “corrupt family tradition” for the first time in its announcement of an investigation into Zhou Benshun, the Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee. On July 24, 2015, Zhou Benshun was arrested during a meeting, along with his son Zhou Jing, his wife Duan Yanqiu, and Secretary Liu Xiaojun. Shun is the first incumbent provincial Party Secretary to be arrested after the 18th Congress.

Thuan's brother-in-law, Luu Dien Dao, and his nephew-in-law, Tong Dat Dung, the Director of the Irrigation Department of Thuat Pho District, were also arrested and investigated. Many years before that, despite repeated petitions from officials accusing Tong Dat Dung of corruption, Dung remained steadfast because his uncle-in-law was behind him.
Thuan’s son, Chu Tinh, dominated the business world in Hunan, single-handedly creating a “commercial fleet” in government construction, real estate, car sales, currency investment, etc., becoming “Chu ca” alongside Ho Hung Kiet, the son of the former Chairman of the CPPCC here, Mr. Ho. These two sons of officials fought over all the rights to use the land in the locality, then sold it to a third party for profit.
The reason why Zhou Jing was able to dominate Hunan was because in 2000, Zhou Benshun was transferred to be the Director of Hunan Provincial Police, and 1 year later became a Standing Committee Member and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee's Political and Legal Committee.
Teaching children to love money and power from an early age
In December 2014, the Langfang City Court (Hebei) tried and sentenced Liu Tienan, Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission and Director of the National Energy Administration, to life in prison and confiscation of all assets for accepting bribes.
In his final statement in court, Liu Tienan cried: “Every day I blame myself for my own mistakes that ruined my son. Raising him but not educating him is my fault. I must take full responsibility for my son’s crimes…”

The court's verdict showed that of the 35.58 million yuan that Nam received in bribes, 34 million were received by Liu Decheng's son. Liu Decheng's greed stemmed from his father's orders.
Luu Duc Thanh recalled: “When I was young, my father often told me: to be a person, you have to stand out, to be above others, only then will you live well, only then will you be respected.” Growing up, Thanh’s mind was filled with the concepts of money, values, and life that his father had instilled in him. That was the basis for Thanh to later take advantage of his father’s influence and authority to make money.
Helping children is the standard for promoting officials.
Trinh Mo Duong is the only son among three children of former Hebei Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Duy Cao. Thanks to his father, Duong, without spending a single penny, was able to establish 32 companies at home and abroad within 10 years with total assets of several hundred million yuan.

The first “pot of gold” that Duong earned was a “gift” from his father. It was in 1991, when the Hebei Post Office negotiated with a large Canadian company to import equipment. The agent, Mr. Han, in Hong Kong, invited Cao, then the provincial governor, to dinner and then invited him to Canada to conduct an inspection. The deal was successful, Cao told Han: “Let me send Duong to your place to learn and practice.”
A few days later, Yang was promoted to Deputy Director of a Han advertising company in Beijing. On the occasion of the 1993 New Year, Han gave this advertising company to Yang and another young master, and Yang received shares worth 450,000 yuan. This was just one of many cases where Cao took advantage of his position to entrust his son to a businessman.
In promoting officials, Trinh Duy Cao had two criteria for selecting people: Politically, they had to agree with him and absolutely obey him; economically, they had to support and help their son. To promote those who enthusiastically helped their son, Cao disregarded principles, sometimes personally finding relevant leaders to persuade them to promote them several levels above him.
By 2000, Yang's assets had reached several hundred million yuan. In March 2000, the Li Zhen case occurred, and Gao tried to take his son abroad. In April 2001, the Shijiazhuang Public Security Bureau issued a wanted notice for Yang because of signs of dispersing and hiding evidence, but Yang had already fled.
Currently, Trinh Mo Duong is hiding in Canada, seeking asylum status due to China's red notice. China is negotiating to bring Duong back to China to be punished according to the law.
Thanks to the businessman who took his wife to gamble
On March 30, 2016, former Standing Committee Member of Shandong Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Jinan City Party Committee Wang Min was brought to trial before the Ningbo Court, Zhejiang.

In his confession, Man wrote: “Every night I could not sleep, often waking up in the middle of the night, my whole body drenched in sweat. During the day I was often scared out of my wits, afraid that the provincial party committee would announce it, afraid of being arrested in the hall. When I was at work, I was afraid to go home, and when the leaders called me, I was afraid they would use me as an excuse to arrest me.”
Wang Min was so scared because his close real estate tycoon Zhao X was arrested. Min was worried that Zhao X would expose her. Since 2005, Min had introduced his wife to Zhao X. To please Wang Liying, Zhao X took the initiative to take her to Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macau to travel and shop for luxury goods. Whatever she liked, Zhao bought for her.
In 2008, at Man's suggestion, Trieu bought a house for Man's daughter. Trieu also took Man's wife to Macau to gamble, and even though she didn't gamble, she still got a share of the profits. Man also condoned her daughter to hold a nominal position in Trieu's company to receive a salary. Man also suggested and connected to help her son-in-law take on construction contracts to make a profit.

In 2016, the case of former Yunnan Provincial Party Secretary Bai Enpei accepting bribes will be brought to trial. Zhang Huiqing is Pei's concubine.

In his confession, he wrote: “I worked in the front, she worked in the back collecting money; sometimes she even tried to create conditions for her to use my name to trade power and money, and receive bribes.”
Bai En Pei did not directly receive money or gifts, but Truong Hue Thanh directly acted as the “cashier”. Thanh’s two younger brothers, one was in charge of connecting officials with merchants, the other managed money and goods. To facilitate receiving and laundering money, Thanh also used his cousin’s name to establish 10 shell companies.
In August 2014, Boi was investigated. More than a month later, Thanh was dismissed from the position of Standing Committee Member of the Provincial Political Consultative Conference. The press reported that after becoming Boi's wife, Thanh, a flight attendant, was promoted by her husband to the position of Secretary of the Provincial Power Company Party Committee, and the position of department head, but often caused laughter because she "couldn't eat or speak"./.
