(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, the weather in the mountainous district of Que Phong has been unpredictable, with temperatures fluctuating between 0 and 16 degrees Celsius, and in some places dropping to -1 degree Celsius. In response to this situation, the District Education and Training Department, based on Decision No. 898 dated August 9, 2013, of the Nghe An Provincial Department of Education and Training regarding the implementation of the 2013-2014 school year plan, has directed schools in the district to proactively allow students to take time off when temperatures drop.

Accordingly, primary school students and preschool children will have a day off when the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius; secondary school students will have a day off if the temperature is below 7 degrees Celsius and will have make-up classes arranged at a suitable time when the weather is favorable.

In the 2013-2014 school year, the education sector in Que Phong had 14,024 students, including: 3,811 children in preschool; 6,522 students in primary school; and nearly 3,691 students in lower secondary school.

In Tri Le commune alone, the temperature recorded at 7:00 AM on January 23rd was 1 degree Celsius. The weather was freezing, with frost and thick fog, so schools proactively allowed students to stay home. Mr. Ho Si Huy – Deputy Principal of Tri Le Ethnic Boarding Junior High School – said: “In recent days, the weather has been erratic, with temperatures dropping to as low as 0 degrees Celsius. The school proactively canceled the first and second periods of the morning. After 9:00 AM, teaching and learning resumed as normal because the temperature then rose to 10 or 12 degrees Celsius. The school also has a plan to make up for lost time at a suitable time.”

Because it's a boarding school, the children stay at the school, allowing for flexible scheduling of teaching and learning when the weather is favorable. Meanwhile, primary and preschools arrange for teachers to go to each village to inform parents to keep their children at home.

Tri Le has 2,367 students, including 450 preschool children, 3,811 primary school students, and 572 secondary school students. Schools proactively close during cold weather and low temperatures to ensure the children's health and allow them to play and learn better on warmer days.
