Other types of press including visual press, audio press, and electronic press are still subject to the common tax rate.

On the afternoon of June 19, with a majority of votes in favor, the National Assembly passed the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Corporate Income Tax. Accordingly, the general tax rate will be applied at 22% from the beginning of 2014 and 20% from 2016. It is noteworthy that the National Assembly agreed to reduce the tax rate for print media agencies to 10% (instead of the current 25%). Other types of press including visual press, audio press, and electronic press will still be subject to the same general tax rate.

Previously, in the discussion at the Hall, Mr. Ha Minh Hue - Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association said: Of the 67 radio and television stations, only 4 major centers such as Vietnam Television, Ho Chi Minh City Television, Hanoi Television and Vinh Long Television have good advertising revenue and have money to pay corporate income tax. The remaining 60 local radio and television stations are in extremely difficult circumstances. Advertising on electronic newspapers and radio stations has not yet had any significant changes.

However, according to the explanation of the National Assembly Standing Committee: In recent years, press and propaganda activities, including the activities of various types of newspapers, electronic newspapers, and television newspapers, have made great contributions to the successful implementation of economic and political tasks and contributed to the State budget. However, compared to other types, print newspaper activities still face many difficulties because input costs are increasingly high and must carry out many political tasks, serving remote areas, islands. Therefore, in the current context, to share common difficulties, for now, please only keep the preferential scope for print newspapers./.
