National Highway 1A and the Ho Chi Minh Highway will be completed on schedule. In addition, 18 out of 21 provinces and cities have handed over 100% of the land. The remaining localities have promised to hand over the rest this June.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc provided this information in response to a question from delegate Huynh Nghia (Da Nang delegation) regarding the progress of the expansion of National Highway 1A from North to South, the Ho Chi Minh Highway, and several other projects.

"According to the Deputy Prime Minister's commitment at the 5th session, these major projects are accelerating land clearance, actively carrying out construction, and will be completed and put into use by the end of 2015. So, at this point, has the Deputy Prime Minister fulfilled that promise?" Representative Huynh Nghia questioned.

In response to this question, the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated: At the 5th session, I reported that this is a policy of the Central Committee of the Party, the National Assembly, and the Government. National Highway 1 and the Ho Chi Minh Highway are very significant projects in transporting goods, serving economic growth, and reducing traffic accidents.

Recently, in accordance with the National Assembly's directive, we have proceeded with land clearance along the entire route. A road nearly 1,500km long requires the relocation of approximately 85,000 households, of which over 5,000 households have to be moved to resettlement areas because they no longer have land to live on.

Many National Assembly delegates, Provincial Party Secretaries, and Chairmen of Provincial People's Committees present in this hall have directly supervised the relocation of residents to ensure timely progress. Of the 21 provinces through which the national highway and Ho Chi Minh Highway pass, 18 have now cleared and handed over 100% of the land, while some provinces in Central Vietnam have also completed over 95% of the land handover.

"All of you have promised that 100% of the land will be handed over this June," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

To date, the transport sector, in accordance with the Government's policy, has directed 42 units to work day and night on the construction of National Highway 1 and the Ho Chi Minh Highway. This is a large-scale project with many component projects, involving simultaneous operation, construction, and expansion with a high volume of traffic. Therefore, the forces are working day and night to ensure that National Highway 1A and the Ho Chi Minh Highway, as we reported, will be handed over by the end of 2015. To date, 5 projects have been handed over, 5-6 months ahead of schedule, and the Ministry of Transport has been very decisive in this matter.
