Q1/2013: Over 13,000 businesses ceased operations.

According to a report by the Business Registration Management Department (Ministry of Planning and Investment) in the first quarter of 2013, more than 13,000 businesses nationwide ceased operations. Meanwhile, the number of newly established businesses decreased both in quantity and registered capital.

Specifically, the whole country saw over 15,000 newly registered businesses with a total capital of 79,389 billion VND, a decrease of 6.8% in number and 16.1% in capital compared to the first quarter of 2012. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2012, the number of newly established businesses decreased by 9.4% and registered capital decreased by 26.7%. This indicates that businesses are facing more difficulties in production and business operations.

In the first quarter of 2013, 2,272 businesses nationwide completed dissolution procedures, concentrated in localities such as Ho Chi Minh City (692), Hanoi (315), Thai Binh (185), and Khanh Hoa (101). Also in this quarter, 13,011 businesses ceased operations nationwide. Of these, 3,567 registered for temporary suspension of operations, and 9,444 ceased operations but had not yet completed the procedures for closing their tax identification numbers. The number of businesses ceasing operations in the quarter increased by 26.1% compared to the same period in 2012.
