Original text of admission regulations:
“Students admitted to the school do not fall into the following categories:
- Poor academic performance, retake previous year
- Average conduct or below of the previous school year
- Students with offensive tattoos
- Students who smoke, fight, steal or break the law
- Homosexual students or students with dangerous or infectious diseases are not accepted to stay in the dormitory.
Even after being admitted to the school, if the school discovers that the student falls into one of the above categories, the student is forced to withdraw from the school.
When reading these regulations, many parents are confused and worried. Because many people have children who are homosexual, and homosexuality is not a disease, the fact that the school has such regulations makes many people think that the school intends to discriminate against this group of people.
A parent said: “Currently, the whole society is trying to eliminate discrimination and barriers for homosexuals to integrate into the community, and the law also recognizes the equal rights of homosexuals. It is difficult to accept a school that discriminates against and discriminates against homosexuals. In addition, I think it is also inappropriate to not accept students with tattoos. Because nowadays, many young people consider tattoos a form of art, and students with tattoos are not necessarily not good students or good students.”
Nickname Leo shared his opinion: “In my opinion, the school violated regulation number 5 because it discriminated. As for the tattoo regulation, it has been in place for a long time, so we cannot say it is wrong. Even though it is currently an art subject, I think it is not acceptable in education.”
However, there are also opinions supporting this regulation: “This admission regulation is completely reasonable, no problem. Which school allows students to get tattoos? Don't say it's like this or that in foreign countries. No country allows students to get tattoos. It's right that infectious diseases and contagious diseases are banned in boarding schools, but if you go there and infect the whole school, you're not going to infect the whole school. And it's also right that homosexuality is banned in boarding schools. It's true that there are some homosexuals, but if you run into a pervert who harasses you for years at school, who can stand it? I also have tattoos from my shoulder blades down to my arms, so don't say I discriminate against tattoos. Basically, if you're still in school, you're not allowed to get tattoos, but if you're old enough, you can get any kind of tattoo,” Minh Chau Tran responded.
Responding to the press, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, Principal of Viet Anh Secondary and High School, said: “It is not true to say that the school does not accept homosexual students. We only do not accept homosexual students in the dormitory. As for normal students, there is no problem. Regarding tattoos, he said: “Each school has its own characteristics. If you cannot study at this school, go to another school.”
