(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, orange growers in Quy Hop district are harvesting the main orange season; with an average selling price at the garden of 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg, farmers have a revenue of 500 - 600 million VND/ha of oranges for business.

This year, due to heavy rain, gardeners in Quy Hop suffered considerable damage. Most orange gardens lost 20-50% of their fruit, and some gardens lost 70-80%.

Currently, the average orange yield per hectare is about 18 tons. Despite the loss in output, purchasing power remains stable thanks to the reputation of the Vinh orange brand.

Quy Hop currently has more than 2,780 hectares of oranges, of which more than 1,227 hectares have entered the commercial stage; oranges are grown mostly in Minh Hop commune with 1,945 hectares; the rest are in Van Loi commune with 378 hectares, Nghia Xuan with 220 hectares, Chau Dinh with 118 hectares, Ha Son with 123 hectares...

Xuan Thanh Agricultural Company located in Minh Hop commune alone has more than 800 hectares of oranges, of which more than 400 hectares are in the business stage.

Currently, the early ripening oranges being harvested and sold on the market are Van Du, Mat, and Xa Doai varieties. These are orange varieties suitable for the climate and soil conditions in this area. When ripe, the oranges have a beautiful yellow color, medium-sized fruit, a sweet taste and a characteristic aroma that is popular with customers.

In addition to harvesting the above orange varieties from October to December, Valenxia oranges and PQ tangerines are harvested from close to Tet until April of the following year. The value of late-season oranges is often 1.5 - 2 times higher than that of main-season oranges. If 1 hectare of main-season oranges generates revenue of about 500 - 600 million VND, the value of Tet oranges is about 800 million to more than 1 billion VND.

The economic efficiency of orange trees is increasingly high. In addition to delicious quality and affordable prices, another decisive factor is that in the past 7 years, Quy Hop has been recognized with the brand "Vinh geographical indication for orange products", so it is known by domestic and foreign consumers.

Traders from many places have come to the garden to buy, and they also hope that Quy Hop will have more solutions to protect the Vinh orange brand so that it is not confused with other types of orange.

» Will stick 550,000 electronic stamps to trace the origin of Vinh oranges
