Men should stay away from lemon juice and hangover remedies.
Doctors recommend that when drunk, you should not drink lemon juice, take hangover pills or anti-emetics.
Drinking hangover medicine still causes poisoning
Currently on the market there are countless types of hangover cures advertised, making alcohol disciples consider them "treasures", allowing them to drink comfortably without getting drunk.
However, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen, in charge of the Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital, warned that this is a completely wrong concept.
The center has received many patients who got drunk and then took hangover pills, requiring emergency hospitalization due to alcohol poisoning. Notably, these cases are often hospitalized in more serious conditions, because they think that having taken hangover pills, they can drink freely.

Or there are people with liver disease who abuse hangover remedies, leading to liver failure and hospitalization.
“The abuse of hangover remedies is on the rise. In fact, there has been no research that has clearly proven the effectiveness of hangover remedies, whether oral or injectable,” Dr. Nguyen emphasized.
According to Dr. Nguyen, these drugs usually only have a partial supporting effect, with the main effect being to replenish salt, minerals, and vitamins. There is no such thing as taking drugs while drunk and sobering up.
Doctors also recommend that when drunk, you should not take anti-emetics, because it will cause toxins to remain in the body, the liver cannot filter them in time, causing serious damage, and over time will cause cirrhosis and liver cancer.
Mistakes when using lemon juice
Dr. Nguyen shared that most people mistakenly think that drinking lemon juice or sour drinks can help sober up faster, not knowing that these drinks can damage the stomach.
“If there is still alcohol in the body, combining it with sour drinks can easily cause more vomiting and damage the stomach due to acid,” Dr. Nguyen explained.

Drinking lemon juice while drunk will make you vomit more, is dangerous when sleeping and damages the stomach. |
Furthermore, drunkards often fall asleep easily. If they are given lemon juice to induce vomiting while they are sleeping, it can cause vomit and food to enter the lungs, causing choking, suffocation, and possibly death if not given first aid promptly.
Therefore, instead of drinking lemon juice, drunk people should drink sugary drinks, honey, salt, soup, milk...
Another mistake that many people make is taking aspirin or paracetamol before or after drinking alcohol to reduce headaches and increase "alcohol tolerance".
“This is taboo. Paracetamol is the main ingredient in pain relievers, fever reducers, and flu medications. When drinking alcohol or beer, the liver is already affected, and the addition of paracetamol at the same time can paralyze the liver. Or like aspirin, a pain reliever and fever reducer, when taken with alcohol, it will irritate the lining of the stomach and duodenum, leading to ulcers or even gastrointestinal bleeding,” Dr. Nguyen warned.
To avoid danger, Dr. Nguyen advises everyone to drink alcohol in moderation. Drink slowly with food, alternating with water; do not drink alcohol of unknown origin; do not drink many types of alcohol at the same time.
When experiencing headaches, dizziness... after a few hours of drinking alcohol, people should go to the hospital immediately.
