3-minute rule to avoid illness for children when using air conditioning
The weather is hot so almost every family uses air conditioning. However, children in this environment will easily get sick if their parents do not pay attention.
Many people often wonder what temperature is suitable for their children, how to set the air conditioner for their children, but mothers must understand that each type of air conditioner will have different usage regulations, different capacity - cooling level, different wind level and different family space. Therefore, there cannot be a specific level for each house. But according to doctors, parents need to pay attention to the following:
Give your child plenty of water to drink.
Drinking plenty of water is never a bad idea. The biggest concern for children in air-conditioned rooms is dehydration. Dehydration not only weakens the body and makes them susceptible to illness, but also causes constipation due to hard stools that are difficult to digest.
Mothers should give their babies plenty of water when they are in the air conditioner. Whether it is filtered water, breast milk, formula, juice or soup… all have the effect of rehydrating the child’s body.
Do not turn on the air conditioner 24/24h
Turning on the air conditioner all day will make the air stagnant, which is not good for the health and respiratory system of children. Every day, mothers must turn off the air conditioner at least twice, open all the doors, use a fan to expel all the stagnant air, and at the same time, let as much sunlight into the room as possible.
3 minute rule
The difference and sudden change in temperature between inside and outside the air-conditioned room can quickly "knock down" the child's resistance, making them susceptible to fever, flu, and cough. Mothers should remember that every time they want to take their child out of the air-conditioned room, they should open the door 3 minutes before, let the child stand and play nearby to get used to the hot air outside.
On the other hand, when your baby comes home from outside and sweats a lot, you should wipe the sweat off your baby and let him sit and rest for at least 3 minutes at normal room temperature, avoiding letting your baby go straight into an air-conditioned room with cold wind and a sudden low temperature.
Do not let the air conditioner blow directly into the baby's sleeping area.
The respiratory system of young children is very sensitive. If the air conditioner blows directly into the face or head, the child with a weak constitution will easily get respiratory diseases such as respiratory allergies, rhinitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and sore throat.
Common symptoms of babies are cough, fever, stuffy nose... which can appear after lying in air conditioning for a long time. Keep the room clean and humid.
How to treat children with diseases caused by air conditioning:
Cough due to cold, flu
Children often catch colds and flu due to sudden changes in the environment, such as when a child goes from hot to cold; or when a child has just played and sweated and is not changed clothes immediately but put in an air-conditioned room... causing the child to catch a cold or flu.
+ How to treat cough due to cold and flu:
Cough due to flu is caused by a virus, so in this case, doctors will only treat the symptoms, not use antibiotics to treat it.
There are many ways to treat coughs caused by colds and flu, each suitable for different ages of children.
Children: Give children safe cough medicines, traditional cough medicines or expectorants that do not have much effect on children.
Older children/adults: There are more types of cough medicines such as cough suppressants, CNS depressants, or opiate-containing products (for adults).
In addition to cough symptoms, children may also have fever, stuffy nose, runny nose... At this time, mothers should give their children fever-reducing drugs (paracetamol and Ibuprofen) according to the instructions on the medicine box in combination with nasal drops.
Children with cough due to allergies
Children with allergies that cause coughs are mainly allergic rhinitis due to unclean air conditioners. Normally, air conditioners will have specific regulations on dust filter cleaning time depending on each brand and how often they are used.
+ How to treat cough for children with allergic rhinitis:
Children with coughs due to allergic rhinitis must be treated with antihistamines to combat allergies, which can be taken orally or by nasal drops. In addition, anticonvulsants can be used to combat nasal congestion.
Cough due to pneumonia
Pneumonia is a serious case, when a child has pneumonia, they will have symptoms such as high fever, cough, difficulty breathing, rapid breathing, fatigue, and chest retraction. If you suspect your child has pneumonia, you should take them to the hospital, do not treat them at home. When you go to the doctor, the doctor will prescribe treatment depending on the severity of the disease.
