The Government’s fair and effective management and use of resources from the people and private enterprises will bring new value to the Covid-19 response strategy. It is this solidarity that will help Vietnam end the pandemic. Hopefully, Vietnam will continue to be an example of a whole-of-people approach in ending the pandemic.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh: The vaccine fund is a fund of compassion, of solidarity, of trust, of hearts connecting hearts so that we can overcome difficulties together, contribute to creating a victorious Vietnam, so that once again we can make our name and write the glorious history of the nation's victory - victory over the Covid-19 pandemic.

Towards a safer life

With the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund initiative, representatives of international organizations in Vietnam highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity and responsibility of the people in the fight against "Covid-19".

The Covid-19 Vaccine Fund was launched on May 31 and officially launched on the evening of June 5, aiming to mobilize social contributions to share with the State budget, serving the activities of purchasing, importing vaccines and researching and producing vaccines domestically.

Covid-19 vaccines are used for people on the principle of ensuring voluntary contributions, public and transparent operations and compliance with the law.

With the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund initiative, representatives of international organizations in Vietnam highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity and responsibility of the people in the fight against "Covid-19".

According to calculations, to achieve community immunity, Vietnam needs 150 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to vaccinate about 75 million people. The total estimated cost is more than 25,000 billion VND.

Along with that, the epidemic is not expected to end soon, "living with the epidemic" becomes a permanent requirement, the effectiveness of the vaccine does not last long, and vaccination must be carried out periodically.

All of this requires a huge amount of funding while the country is facing many difficulties and a limited budget. Every contribution from the people to the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund is aimed at the goal of a safer life for themselves, their families, their communities and the whole society.

In such a context, the establishment of the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund, calling on all organizations and individuals at home and abroad to voluntarily contribute, sponsor, and support the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund, is extremely important and necessary. According to VNA, international organizations in Vietnam have highly appreciated this initiative.

New value for Covid-19 response strategy

According to Dr. Kidong Park, Chief Representative of the World Health Organization in Vietnam, the mobilization of resources to improve access to Covid-19 vaccines by the Vietnamese Government is very timely and in line with the global vaccine initiative.

The Vietnamese government has made great efforts to mobilize resources from the budget, but in reality, more resources are still needed.

The Government's fair and effective management and use of resources from people and private enterprises will bring new value to the Covid-19 response strategy.

"It is this solidarity that will help Vietnam end the pandemic. Hopefully, Vietnam will continue to be an example of a whole-of-people approach in ending the pandemic," Dr. Kidong Park emphasized.

A good idea

Sharing the same view, Mr. Kamal Malhotra, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, said: "This is a good initiative, something the United Nations has supported for many months now."

From the United Nations perspective, Mr. Kamal Malhotra believes that there should be only one national fund, under the overall supervision and direction of the Government, instead of having many competing funds.

The Covid-19 pandemic is considered unprecedented in the past century, a national emergency for any institution. Only the Government has the capacity and capacity to coordinate this fund.

Dr. Kidong Park, WHO Representative in Vietnam: Hopefully Vietnam will continue to be an example of a whole-of-people approach in ending the pandemic.

The right move

Congratulating the Vietnamese Government on launching the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund, Ms. Carollyn Turk, World Bank Country Director for Vietnam, said that rapid and effective Covid-19 vaccination is a necessary and important measure to ensure people's safety and promote economic recovery.

Ms. Carollyn Turk believes that the Vietnamese Government is taking the right steps in accelerating access to Covid-19 vaccines for every citizen.

Very positive

Sharing about Vietnam's initiative to establish a Covid-19 Vaccine Fund, Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti, Head of the European Union Delegation to Vietnam, said that establishing the fund is an important part of Vietnam's overall strategy to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the same time, the Ambassador believes that in this strategy, the Vietnamese Government plays a key role in mobilizing and connecting resources.

"This shows that the Government has fully grasped the needs and needs to take faster steps. This is very positive," Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti shared.

Everyone will agree

Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam, said that UNDP has conducted a study on people's experiences with the Covid-19 epidemic.

"The results show the widespread support of the Vietnamese people for the Government's policies to prevent and combat the Covid-19 epidemic."

In addition, according to Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, the level of dissemination and support of the Vietnamese people for the Government's policies is exceptionally high compared to other countries in the world. Therefore, she believes that all people, especially businesses and people with financial potential, will unanimously support the Government's call and actively participate in contributing to the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund.
