(Baonghean.vn) - On New Year's Eve, hundreds of police officers in the province are on duty to resolutely prevent and combat fireworks.

During the sacred moment of New Year's Eve, while people pour into the streets to welcome the new year or reunite with their families, the police force remains on high alert. Besides ensuring security and social order, the task of preventing firework explosions on New Year's Eve is a top priority.

Vinh City has been identified as one of the areas with a high incidence of firecracker use. The hotspots in the city are the communes of Nghi Phu, Hung Loc, and Hung Dong… Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Son, Deputy Chief of Vinh City Police, stated that from the afternoon of the 30th of Tet (Lunar New Year's Eve) until the end of New Year's Eve, city police forces were present at all hotspots to intensify control over firecracker use. In particular, nearly 300 officers from the provincial police will be deployed to the area to participate in cross-patrols to promptly detect and prevent any acts of firecracker use.

In Yen Thanh district, prior to New Year's Eve, the district police seized over 20 kg of various types of fireworks, initiated an investigation into one case, and prosecuted one suspect. On New Year's Eve, following the provincial police plan, the district police coordinated with the police and authorities of the communes to establish four task forces and two continuous patrol shifts to ensure security and order and combat the use of fireworks. “The district has identified Do Thanh commune as one of the areas with a high risk of fireworks use. On New Year's Eve, a task force of six officers is present in Do Thanh commune and surrounding areas to promptly prevent and combat the use of fireworks. In addition, four task forces will also be on standby in other areas to promptly handle violations,” affirmed Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Tac, Deputy Chief of Yen Thanh District Police.

Colonel Lu Van Tuong, Deputy Director of the Nghe An Provincial Police, said that along with efforts to raise awareness, crack down on, and dismantle networks involved in transporting, storing, and producing fireworks before Tet, during peak days, especially on New Year's Eve, the Nghe An Police established 5 inspection teams to guide the prevention and control of fireworks-related violations on New Year's Eve of the Year of the Goat 2015.

We call on people to strictly comply with the policy prohibiting the use of firecrackers and sky lanterns, especially during Tet. The provincial police force and local police will increase patrols and inspections, and any act of setting off firecrackers will be dealt with immediately. We call on the people to join in so that there will be no more firecrackers on New Year's Eve,” Colonel Lu Van Tuong affirmed.

Over the past period, police forces in various units and localities have detected and arrested 260 cases involving 352 individuals, seizing 1.82 tons of fireworks. Besides Chinese fireworks smuggled into Vietnam via sea and land routes, there has been a rise in domestic fireworks production. Police forces have detected and arrested several individuals involved in the illegal production of fireworks, initiated legal proceedings in 42 cases involving 57 defendants, and tried 30 cases involving 45 defendants; handled 124 cases involving 182 individuals for administrative violations, and are currently investigating and consolidating files for 94 cases involving 113 individuals for processing according to the law.

Thanks to intensified propaganda efforts and strict measures to prevent and handle the trading and storage of firecrackers, the overall situation of firecracker use this year has decreased significantly compared to previous years.
