Quynh Luu speeds up progress of anti-salt intrusion projects
(Baonghean.vn) - With capital from higher levels, Quynh Luu district has invested in building new, upgrading and repairing sea and river dyke systems to minimize damage during the storm season as well as prevent saltwater intrusion.

According to the design, the construction route is nearly 5km long; the dike is built to an elevation of 3.5m; the dike surface is 5m wide combined with a traffic road; the structure is made of 20cm thick concrete. The dike roof is reinforced and protected with 30cm thick dry aggregate. This is a project with a large volume of excavation and construction of many new drainage culverts to protect more than 600 hectares of vegetable and aquaculture land of 4 communes in the coastal area. To ensure the progress of the project, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district has directed the communes where the project passes through to do a good job of propaganda and site clearance.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tue - Chairman of Quynh Luong Commune People's Committee said: The completion of the Mo River dike upgrade project will overcome the situation of landslides and saltwater rising from the river to residential areas, vegetable production areas and shrimp farming. Therefore, Quynh Luong Commune is interested in the project, the people are very in agreement with the land clearance to create conditions for the construction unit to speed up the progress.

Determining the importance of upgrading the Mo River dike project not only to preventsaltwater intrusionfor hundreds of hectares of agricultural land, but also to protect the safety of more than 4,000 households living close to the sea. Therefore, after the epidemic stabilized, the construction unit mobilized overtime workers and concentrated on machinery to speed up the construction progress. Up to now, according to the representative of the construction unit, the workload has been completed by 70%, striving to complete before the time assigned by the Provincial People's Committee.
Quynh Luu district has about 1,000 hectares of agricultural land and aquaculture areas surrounding large rivers. Recently, due to the impact of climate change, the tides have increased by a few centimeters each year, causing seawater to intrude inland, affecting people's vegetable production and brackish water shrimp farming.

To cope with salinity intrusion and prevent the risk of freshwater shortages in coastal areas, from 2020 to 2022, there are 4 key projects under construction in the district, such as: dredging and upgrading Lach Quen fishing port project in Tien Thuy commune; Upgrading the Mo river dike, building a seawater supply system for industrial shrimp farming according to VietGAP standards and the project to build embankments and protect the coast in Quynh Bang commune.
All of these projects ensure the role of preventing salinity and keeping fresh water during high tides, and at the same time act as a flood drainage system to prevent landslides for river dykes during heavy rains to ensure the safety of hundreds of households living on both sides of the dykes.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh - Vice Chairman of People's CommitteeQuynh Luu districtsaid: In order to promptly complete key projects before the storm season, the District People's Committee has directed the Project Management Board and specialized departments to focus on site clearance, prioritizing key projects and weak projects of sea and river dykes.
At the same time, construction units are required to actively participate and focus on machinery and human resources.speed up construction progress. At the same time, coordinate with the supervision consultant to focus on managing the quality of the project according to approved technical requirements, striving to complete and put the projects into use in 2022.
