Quynh Luu: Nearly 2,400 hectares of rice area infected with small leaf rollers

(Baonghean.vn) - Up to now, the entire Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) has about 2,400 hectares of summer-autumn rice infected with the 4th generation of leaf rollers. If not prevented in time, the 5th generation of leaf rollers will cause severe infection over a large area.

This year, Quynh Luu planted 7,450 hectares of autumn-autumn crop, including 5,000 hectares of summer-autumn crop and 2,450 hectares of winter-spring crop. After planting, farmers actively went to the fields to take care of the rice and spray pesticides. However, from June 20, when the rice was in the final stage of standing, the fourth outbreak of small leaf rollers broke out and spread widely with an infected area of ​​2,400 hectares in some localities.

Of which, about 1,200 hectares of medium-infected area, with a density of 50 - 100 individuals/m2, 600 hectares are heavily infected with a density of 100 - 300 individuals/m2 concentrated in the communes of Quynh Hau, Quynh Ba, Quynh Ngoc, Quynh My, Quynh Lam... and some areas of green rice planted early in the rural and semi-mountainous areas.

To promptly take measures to prevent and control pests, leaders of Quynh Luu district inspected fields in some localities with rice areas heavily infected with leaf rollers.

Through inspection, Mr. Dang Ngoc Binh - Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee criticized some localities for being indecisive and subjective in directing people to prevent and control pests, causing some areas to not spray pesticides or spray late, with white leaves caused by pests, affecting productivity.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the District Plant Protection Station have directed communes with rice areas infected with small leaf rollers to advise farmers to accelerate the time of fertilizing rice to increase recovery ability; increase fertilization by 1 - 2 kg of nitrogen and 3 - 4 kg of potassium for rice; monitor the amount of eggs and the fifth generation of small leaf rollers in the fields, which are forecasted to cause serious damage on a large scale. Thereby, measures will be taken to promptly overcome and prevent the situation of pests and diseases, protecting crops for farmers./.
