Quynh Luu: Meeting with the Steering Committee for Women and Children Affairs of Xieng Khouang Province (Lao People's Democratic Republic)
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 2nd, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district, in coordination with the District Committee for the Advancement of Women, organized a meeting to share experiences with the Committee for the Advancement of Women of Xieng Khouang province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, and to summarize the work on the advancement of women and gender equality in the first six months of the year, and to implement tasks for the last six months of 2014. Attendees included delegates from Xieng Khouang province, Mr. Vi Van Quynh – Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Nghe An province, and leaders of Quynh Luu district.
In recent times, the work of gender equality and the advancement of women has been given attention and implemented well by Party committees, government agencies, and mass organizations in Quynh Luu district, achieving many positive results. Specifically, the planning and training of female cadres in various fields has been emphasized; the percentage of female cadres holding key positions at the district and commune levels has increased; 100% of communes and towns have established and strengthened grassroots Committees for the Advancement of Women. Training and dissemination of information on gender equality have been prioritized. Grassroots Committees for the Advancement of Women, in coordination with relevant departments and agencies, have organized 21 training courses to enhance knowledge of laws and policies related to women and children, with over 3,000 participants. New jobs have been created for 1,100 rural workers, with women accounting for 62%. Community health care in general, and women's health care in particular, has gradually received more attention. The District Committee for the Advancement of Women has piloted the model of "Preventing and Minimizing the Harm of Gender-Based Violence" in Son Hai commune, thereby contributing to raising awareness and understanding of gender, gender equality, and the prevention of domestic violence among the people in the area.

At the conference, following the opinions and proposed solutions from the delegates, the Committee for the Advancement of Women of Quynh Luu District and the Committee for the Advancement of Women of Xieng Khouang Province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, shared valuable experiences accumulated during their respective implementation processes. This allowed each unit to identify the most suitable experiences to serve their work in the future.
In response to the demands of reality, to ensure the effectiveness of the Committee for the Advancement of Women in Quynh Luu District, the tasks for the last six months of 2014 need to continue raising awareness at all levels about gender equality and the advancement of women; the Women's Union at all levels needs to continue promoting its role and raising awareness of gender equality among its members; develop specific plans to care for women, provide education, and address employment issues. Strengthen inspection and supervision of grassroots committees, organize training courses to improve professional skills and integrate gender perspectives into the planning and implementation of gender equality policies…
