Quynh Luu: Inspecting and directing drought prevention and forest fire fighting efforts.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of June 4th, leaders of Quynh Luu district inspected the drought situation and forest fire prevention and control in several localities.
The delegation inspected the drought situation in An Hoa and Quynh Thanh communes. The inspection revealed that many rice-growing areas still lack water for the summer-autumn crop, with dry, cracked land. The irrigation canal system is depleted of water, especially in the Hoi Bang and Hoi Dau areas of An Hoa commune.
Due to their location at the end of the irrigation canal system, the two communes of An Hoa and Quynh Thanh lack control over their water supply, especially during the current prolonged hot weather. In response, agricultural cooperatives are implementing drought mitigation measures such as pumping water from drainage canals and ponds into the fields to ensure water for production. As a result, approximately 40% of the agricultural land now has water for planting, while the remaining farmers are awaiting water supply to continue their summer-autumn crop production.

Next, the delegation inspected forest fire prevention and control in Quynh Tan commune. The total forest area in Quynh Tan commune is 1,460 hectares, of which 877 hectares are pine forest and 213.6 hectares are pine forest for harvesting. The hot weather makes forest fires very likely, so the district leaders requested the local authorities to implement forest fire prevention plans and assign personnel to monitor and protect the forests. They also notified households with forest land to be on constant alert to monitor the situation. Forest rangers regularly inspect the area and coordinate with local people to clear undergrowth and bushes to prevent forest fires during the current prolonged hot weather.
