Quynh Luu: Installed more than 800 warning signs to prevent drowning

Quynh Luu district has a coastline of nearly 20 km along with 82 dams, 2 large rivers, 4 main canal systems flowing through many communes; in addition, there are many canals, ditches, ponds and lakes. In the summer, when the weather is hot, students often go to the sea, rivers, streams, ponds and lakes to cool off and have fun, so there is a potential risk of drowning accidents.

To reduce accidentsdrowningIn the tragic incident, Quynh Luu District Youth Union directed the Youth Union of 33 communes and towns to install warning signs in places with high risk of drowning such as ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams in the communes and towns. Up to now, Quynh Luu District Youth Union has directed local youth unions to install more than 800 warning signs in dangerous deep water areas. In 2 months alone (from April to May 2022), youth unions installed 180 new signs. It is expected that in 2022, about 400 new warning signs in deep water areas will be installed.

It is known that, along with the posting of warning signs, the District Youth Union also directed grassroots youth unions to increase propaganda on the loudspeaker system, propaganda through youth union activities to raise awareness for parents about managing and taking care of children in the summer, not letting their children swim in ponds, lakes, rivers, streams; grassroots youth unions develop plans to open free swimming classes for students; organize many cultural, artistic, and sports activities to attract youth and children to participate. Through activities to improve the effectiveness of propaganda work on drowning prevention in children, contributing to accompanying the care of team members and youth.
