Quynh Luu: Improving the quality of grassroots trade union activities

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 11th, at the District Political Training Center, the Quynh Luu District Labor Union held a conference to review its activities during the first six months of the year and to implement key tasks for the last six months of 2014. The conference was attended by 70 members of the District Labor Union Executive Committee, and the Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of grassroots labor unions throughout the district.

Currently, the total number of grassroots trade unions in Quynh Luu district is 162 units, including 154 units in the administrative and public service sector (121 public service units and 33 communes and towns), 1 unit in a state-owned enterprise, and 7 trade union units in non-state enterprises; the total number of workers and employees is 5,226, of which 5,066 are union members (3,258 women, accounting for 64.3%).

Overview of the conference

In the first six months of the year, the trade union activities in Quynh Luu district have achieved very remarkable results.At the beginning of the year, conferences for civil servants and employees were held in agencies, units, and enterprises. 33/33 communes and towns, 17/17 agencies, 2/2 revenue-generating public service units, and 1/3 enterprises held conferences for civil servants and employees. Social activities, acts of gratitude, and mutual support among workers and employees, focusing on fishermen and the islands, were emphasized. The District Labor Union presented 40 gifts to families of union members in difficult circumstances, totaling 20.2 million VND; provided support to the poor with 20.1 million VND; and, in coordination with the Provincial Labor Union, visited and presented gifts to 8 families whose workers were fishermen on the missing vessel NA 93240 TS, with each gift worth 1 million VND... To date, 5 enterprises have signed new or amended collective labor agreements. In the first six months of the year, the District Labor Union coordinated with relevant departments to inspect the implementation of policies and regulations at 7 enterprises. The District Labor Union also provided legal advice on labor contracts, responsibilities, and rights when participating in social insurance to 26 workers.

During "Workers' Month" in 2014, the District Labor Union coordinated with the District General Hospital to organize free medical examinations, consultations, and medication distribution for 207 ethnic minority people in Tan Thang commune, with a total value of 20 million VND. They also presented gifts to two teachers, Nguyen Thi Hong Ly and Le Thi Thanh Suu, totaling 26 million VND. The Education Union supported the sports team participating in provincial competitions, assisted teachers in winning provincial and district-level teaching awards for preschool and secondary education, and visited sick teachers, totaling 40.7 million VND; and supported units in building national standard schools with 60 million VND.

The work of disseminating information and educating union members and workers, contributing to building a strong working class, is given great attention. Activities are organized to celebrate major national holidays; and resolutions of the Party and laws of the State are disseminated and thoroughly understood. The District Labor Union, together with the District Steering Committee, organized a rally and parade to respond to the 16th National Week of Occupational Safety and Health and Fire Prevention.

The District Labor Union organized many emulation movements such as "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh", "Excellent Workers - Creative Workers", "Good at work - good at home", and "Green - clean - beautiful, ensuring occupational safety and health". The entire district had 665 innovative ideas and experiences, with 500 completed; and 17 projects and products. Regarding the title of "Advanced Worker": there were 2,780 individuals and 71 collectives. 311 people received the title of "Emulation Fighter" at the grassroots level, 13 people received the title of "Emulation Fighter" at the provincial level, and 1 person received the title of "Emulation Fighter" at the central level. 2,015 people received the title of "Good at work - good at home", accounting for 61.85% of the total number of female workers and employees.

The work of innovating the content and methods and improving the quality of grassroots trade union activities and the trade union cadre has seen positive changes. In the first six months of the year, 48 outstanding union members were admitted to the Party.
