Quynh Luu: Fishermen catch a lot of herring and silver carp

(Baonghean.vn) - In the last days of April, fishermen in Quynh Luu district had a big seafood catch. After only a few days at sea, each boat caught 20 - 40 tons of fish, worth over 400 million VND.

Lach Quen fishing port, Quynh Thuan commune, Quynh Luu district on a day at the end of April, the scene of boats and fishermen busily loading and unloading fish is very bustling. Fishermen said that taking advantage of the favorable weather, they immediately return to the port to sell the fish after catching a batch of fish, then go out to sea for another trip. This season, fishermen catch the following types of fish: silver pomfret, herring, hairtail and mackerel.

Fisherman Tran Van Dinh, owner of a boat with an engine capacity of nearly 800 CV, was excited: It only took 2-3 days at sea to discover a large school of fish, cast a net to surround it, and catch dozens of tons of fish. This trip caught more than 20 tons of mackerel in just 2 days, sold for 16,000 VND/kg, earning more than 300 million VND, after deducting all expenses, the profit was 50%, there were trips that caught 40 tons of fish in 3 days.

Fishermen said that this time of year, offshore fishing boats have a bumper harvest and prices are stable. Silver pomfret is priced at 25,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, herring is 15,000 VND/kg, mackerel is 16,000 VND/kg, especially hairtail fish is priced at 120,000 - 150,000 VND/kg. It is the tourist season so seafood is in high demand.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Chat - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Council, Chairman of the Fisheries Association of Quynh Long Commune (Quynh Luu) said: The locality has a large fleet of offshore fishing boats, with 110 boats with engines of over 90 CV. It is a favorable fishing season, so the boats go out to sea to fish very effectively, some boats leave the port and catch dozens of tons of fish in 2 days, earning hundreds of millions of VND. This April, it is estimated that Quynh Long fishermen caught thousands of tons of various types of seafood.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district, this April, fishermen of Quynh Luu caught about 5,500 tons of various types of seafood, estimated to be worth about 80 billion VND.
