Quynh Luu: National Highway 1 becomes… a sand and gravel collection point.
(Baonghean.vn) - National Highway 1, which runs through Quynh Giang commune for about 2km, is a road with a high volume of traffic. However, for nearly 5 years, many households have arbitrarily encroached on the road's right-of-way, utilizing vacant land on both sides of the road as a sand and gravel storage area.
In particular, the section passing through Hamlet 6 (Quynh Giang) has more than 5 sand stockpiling points. At many points, sand is dumped onto the traffic safety corridor, blocking the front of people's houses... The stockpiling point closest to the commune's People's Committee has an area of more than 300m2, with huge piles of sand brazenly sitting right next to National Highway 1.

The chaotic sand trading scene is taking place right on National Highway 1.
Trucks selling sand are parked right on the road.
Every day, hundreds of trucks carrying sand and gravel arrive at the site. Then, when buyers arrive, these trucks come to collect the sand and transport it away. These trucks arbitrarily park on the road to unload sand and make illegal U-turns. The atmosphere on both sides of the road is bustling like a construction site. Whenever a truck arrives to buy sand, many female laborers hastily shovel it onto the truck, causing chaos on the road. Sand is dumped everywhere, scattered on the road, posing a danger to road users.
It is known that in 2011, 10 traffic accidents occurred on this road, resulting in 1 death and 10 injuries. Besides subjective causes such as the drivers' lack of awareness, objective factors include the narrowness of the road, the encroachment on the road shoulder, and limited visibility. Mr. Tran Van Thai, Head of the Quynh Giang Commune Police, stated: "The commune authorities have repeatedly reminded the households along this road, but the situation remains unchanged."
We request that the relevant authorities promptly take measures to address households that illegally encroach on traffic safety corridors, eliminating this situation to ensure the safety of people participating in traffic.
