Quynh Luu, Thanh Chuong: Mobilizing the entire population to use iodized salt

(Baonghean.vn) -On October 31, localities held a rally to respond to the day "All people buy and use iodized salt" (November 2 every year).

On the afternoon of October 31, at Quynh Thach Secondary School, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district held a rally to encourage the whole population to buy and use iodized salt and iodine-containing products.

Iodized salt is one of three essential trace elements for the development of the human body, however, in reality, there are still a number of people who do not use iodized salt in their daily meals. Quynh Luu is a large district of the province, with many different regions, rapid economic growth, and political stability. Health care, medical examination and treatment for the people are of interest. In 2014, Quynh Luu district had 15/33 communes and towns randomly selected by Nghe An Endocrinology Hospital to investigate the use of iodized salt. Thereby, it showed that the coverage of iodized salt reached over 89%. The target of iodized salt use in 2014 was 428 tons/year, in the first 10 months of the year it reached 302 tons, reaching 70.5% of the plan.

To minimize the disorders caused by iodine deficiency, at the launching ceremony, the leaders of Quynh Luu district requested the Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations to strengthen propaganda and mobilization work so that all people understand the nature of diseases related to iodine deficiency, diabetes, and the role of iodine in the health of each individual. In particular, the importance of iodized salt for the comprehensive physical and mental development of children.

Immediately after the rally, salt was distributed to students at Quynh Thach Secondary School and a parade was held on the main road of National Highway 1A from Quynh Thach to Cau Giat town and back to Quynh Van commune with the aim of encouraging the entire population to regularly buy and use iodized salt to prevent iodine deficiency disorders./.
