Quynh Luu, Thanh Chuong: Launching a campaign for all citizens to use iodized salt.

(Baonghean.vn) -On October 31st, localities organized rallies to commemorate the "National Day for the Purchase and Use of Iodized Salt" (November 2nd annually).

On the afternoon of October 31st, at Quynh Thach Secondary School, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district organized a rally to launch a campaign encouraging all citizens to buy and use iodized salt and iodine-containing products.

Iodized salt is one of the three essential micronutrients for human development; however, in reality, a segment of the population still habitually does not use iodized salt in their daily meals. Quynh Luu is a large district in the province, encompassing diverse regions, with rapid economic development and political stability. Healthcare, including medical examinations and treatment, is a priority for the people. In 2014, 15 out of 33 communes and towns in Quynh Luu district were randomly selected by the Nghe An Endocrinology Hospital for a survey on iodized salt usage. The survey showed that iodized salt coverage reached over 89%. The target for iodized salt usage in 2014 was 428 tons/year, with 302 tons used in the first 10 months, achieving 70.5% of the plan.

To minimize iodine deficiency disorders, at the launching ceremony, the leaders of Quynh Luu district requested that Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, and mass organizations strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts so that all citizens understand the nature of diseases related to iodine deficiency, diabetes, and the role of iodine in the health of each individual. In particular, they emphasized the importance of iodized salt for the comprehensive physical and intellectual development of children.

Immediately after the rally, salt was distributed to students at Quynh Thach Secondary School, and a parade was held along the main National Highway 1A from Quynh Thach to Cau Giat town and back to Quynh Van commune to encourage the entire population to regularly buy and use iodized salt, preventing iodine deficiency disorders.

Following the rally, the people and students directly purchased iodized salt for use in their daily meals, contributing to reducing the number of patients suffering from iodine deficiency disorders, protecting health, and raising public awareness.
