At the shrimp pond of Mr. Bach Sy Nam's family, in the GAP area of Quynh Luong commune, on the morning of May 10, we saw shrimp dying in large numbers floating on the water surface. According to workers here, Mr. Nam's family had raised this shrimp pond for 45 days, and the shrimp weight had reached 230 shrimp/kg. On May 10, discovering strange phenomena in the shrimp, Mr. Nam pulled 800 kg of shrimp to sell to traders for 86,000 VND/kg. It is known that Mr. Nam's family has 4 adjacent shrimp ponds, of which 2 ponds were infected, causing hundreds of millions of VND in damage to the family.
Mr. Dau Dang Dinh - Head of Quynh Luu District Veterinary Station said: For the past half month, the District Veterinary Station has taken more than 30 samples of diseased shrimp for testing, of which nearly 30 samples were positive for white spot disease. Currently, white spot disease is still occurring in some shrimp ponds in the district.
After learning about the death of Mr. Bach Sy Nam's shrimp in Quynh Luong commune, on May 11, the station took shrimp samples for testing and instructed the family on how to treat the pond by: Do not drain the water in the pond when the shrimp are sick, but must treat it with chlorine, drain the water after 1 week, then completely treat the pond again before releasing the shrimp.
To prevent white spot disease in shrimp, people now sprinkle lime powder on the roads leading to shrimp farming areas, and use thick mesh nets and tarpaulins to surround the ponds to prevent insects from outside from entering the ponds and carrying disease to the shrimp.
