Quynh Luu: Growing pineapple in a spread-out manner for high income

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, pineapple growers in Quynh Luu district are using the spread-out method to limit the situation of good harvest but low prices, thereby improving economic efficiency and contributing to improving people's lives.

After more than a year of planting and caring, 5 hectares of pineapple of Mr. Ho Huu Dien's family, Team 6, Youth Volunteer Team of Quynh Luu district, has been harvested.

Mr. Dien said: "For the past 2 years, we have been applying science and technology in flower processing to spread out the pineapple crop, avoiding mass harvesting. At the same time, we have focused on investment so that the trees produce a lot of fruit evenly, and wherever we harvest, traders come to buy it at the field."

Every year, Mr. Dien harvests 35 - 40 tons of pineapple from 1 hectare, earning 300 - 400 million VND, after deducting expenses, he earns over 100 million VND in profit.

The entire Quynh Luu district has 700 hectares of pineapple, grown mainly in Tan Thang, Quynh Thang and Quynh Chau communes. Of which, the Quynh Luu Youth Volunteer Corps has 146 hectares, 30% of which is structured to grow Cayen pineapple to preserve the breed for the next production season, the rest is Queen pineapple. Currently, the Corps has 40 hectares of harvested pineapple.

Currently, pineapple growers produce by commodity method so they pay much attention to investing in fertilizers and drawing experience in the cultivation process to help the plants grow and develop quickly. In addition, they flexibly apply science and technology in the cropping season.

That is using biological solutions to stimulate flowering, fruiting, prevent rot, leaf wilt to protect crops; stop fertilizing at the right stage to allow old plants to focus on fruit development. At the same time, spreading out the crop has limited the situation of massive harvesting, leading to oversupply, product stagnation, and traders squeezing prices.

Thanks to the right investment, the yield of the following year is higher than the previous year. This year, just entering the beginning of the harvest season, many areas have yielded 39 - 40 tons/ha, with selling prices ranging from 4,700 - 5,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuy - Deputy Head of the Youth Union of Quynh Luu district said: "Applying the method of planting in different seasons has shown clear results. In particular, people have widely used microbial fertilizers, so the yield is both higher and safer for users. Compared to other crops, pineapple brings much higher economic efficiency."

Thanks to the spread of crops, pineapple growers in Quynh Luu district have extended the harvest time from early February to July, limiting the situation of pineapples piling up because they ripen at the same time. Currently, traders inside and outside the district come to buy their products to transport to Thanh Hoa city, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh and the southern provinces for consumption./.
