Quynh Luu: Growing sweet corn earns 3 million VND/sao

From early morning, people of An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district were bustling in the fields, urgently harvesting sweet corn to import to the company.
Ms. Tran Thi Dan, Toan My village, An Hoa commune said: This spring crop of 2017, her family planted 2 sao of sweet corn. After being supplied with seeds, Ms. Dan started planting from the beginning of February 2017. After 3 months of care, the corn has now been harvested. Last year, the corn was only half-flowered when it was time to buy, but this year, the corn was big, yellow, with even grains, full of flowers. With the company's purchase price of 3,800 VND/kg of corn, Ms. Dan's family planted 2 sao, after deducting expenses, they also earned nearly 5 million VND of sweet corn. On average, each sao of sweet corn brought in a profit of 3 million VND.

Sweet corn has been planted in An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district since 2012. Up to now, the whole commune has expanded its area to 12 hectares. This is a short-term sweet corn variety, with high yield, high quality, good lodging resistance, and low susceptibility to pests and diseases. When it comes to harvest season, the purchasing unit brings the product to the locality for consumption. "This year, corn has a good harvest and good prices, so we are very excited" - Mr. Vu Huu Hoanh - Hamlet 3, An Hoa commune said.
Currently, each year, An Hoa people grow 3 crops of corn, including 2 crops of sweet corn. If 1 hectare grows 2 crops, each hectare gives farmers a profit of 120 million VND.

With the remaining corn crop, farmers in An Hoa commune do not have to worry about the output because the entire corn stalk is purchased by TH Milk Company to feed cows at a price of 400,000 VND per sao. Therefore, corn is currently a high-income agricultural crop in An Hoa commune.
