(Baonghean.vn) - This is the time when farmers in the mountainous communes of Tan Thang, Quynh Thang, and Quynh Chau (Quynh Luu district) are focusing on harvesting pineapples. This year's pineapple yield is high, reaching 28-30 tons/ha.
| The mountainous commune of Tan Thang has 400 hectares of pineapple plantations, with the largest concentration in hamlets 2/9 and 26/3. For many years, the local government has considered pineapple as the main crop of the area to increase income for farmers. |
| These days, nearly 100 traders from various places flock to the pineapple hills each day to buy pineapples from farmers. Nguyen Ngoc Phu, from Hamlet 26/3, said: His family cultivates 3 hectares of pineapples and has already harvested over 25 tons. The remaining pineapples will be harvested until the end of April. After harvesting all 3 hectares, his family expects to earn a profit of nearly 400 million VND. |
| This year, with fewer pests and diseases, favorable conditions for pineapple growth have resulted in yields of 27-29 tons/ha, with some areas receiving better care achieving over 30 tons/ha, an increase of 3-7 tons/ha compared to the previous season. |
| Ms. Nguyen Thi My, from Quynh Thang commune, happily said: "The price of pineapples at the beginning of this year's season is relatively high, 6-7 thousand dong/kg at the field, double that of last year. My family planted 2 hectares of Queen pineapple variety, which has large, sweet fruits and yields higher productivity than the previous Cayenne variety." |
| Pineapples are drought-tolerant crops, so they are mainly grown in high, harsh hilly areas. Pineapples take 16-18 months to grow before they can be harvested. According to pineapple farmers, the cost of cultivating one hectare of pineapples is approximately 70 million VND. With the current price of 6-7 thousand VND/kg, farmers can earn a profit of 120-130 million VND per hectare. |

| On the pineapple hills, after the farmers finish harvesting, traders come directly to the fields to buy the pineapples from them. In the photo: Mr. Nguyen Van An, a trader in Nghia Dan district, buying pineapples from farmers. |

| The joy of a bountiful harvest and good prices has further motivated farmers in Quynh Luu district to expand the area under pineapple cultivation. |
| Mr. Phan Tien Dung, Chairman of the Tan Thang Commune People's Committee, said: "From the beginning of the season, farmers have received training on planting techniques and pest and disease prevention, so this year's pineapple harvest is bountiful, with significantly higher yields than in previous years." |
| Quynh Luu district has over 700 hectares of pineapple plantations, with an estimated yield of 20,000 tons this season, generating billions of dong in total revenue.Within the commune, there are 5 agricultural product collection points, and every day nearly 100 traders come directly to the fields to buy produce from the farmers.Currently, Quỳnh Lưu pineapples are sold in markets throughout the district and beyond, as well as in other provinces and cities across the country. |
