Quynh Luu is bustling with fishing festival
(Baonghean) -Every spring, fishermen in Quynh Di commune (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An) enthusiastically organize a fishing festival to pray for a year of favorable weather and a good catch of seafood.
The fishing festival is a traditional spiritual and cultural activity of the fishermen of Quynh Di commune. The festival consists of two main parts: the ceremony and the festival with the participation of many organizations and people. In the ceremony: each organization wears costumes representing their organization's characteristics to carry a palanquin according to the schedule from the boat dock, around the village and back to the village's cultural house to pray for good luck, then carry it out to sea. The festival is organized with exciting cultural, artistic and sports activities representing the characteristics of coastal fishermen such as boat racing, tug of war, stick pushing, etc.
Coming to the festival, most fishermen in Quynh Di coastal area have the same wish: "All fishermen here pray for good luck, bringing the whole people a good fishing season and favorable sea trips, bringing people products as well as money to build their homeland and country" - Mr. Tran Phuc Hoan (fisherman of Phu Loi 2 hamlet, Quynh Di commune) shared.
Currently, Quynh Di commune has 76 fishing vessels with nearly 500 workers. The annual output reaches over 2,700 tons, with a total value of nearly 20 billion VND. Unlike other localities that go to sea all year round, Quynh Di fishermen only go to sea in January, February and November of the lunar calendar every year. Because these are the times when the largest number of anchovies are caught to serve the local Phu Loi seafood processing village.
Therefore, participating in the fishing festival, in addition to praying for a year of favorable weather and bountiful fishing, fishermen in the Quynh Di coastal area also pray for each trip to be safe, healthy, and steady in rowing and steering, especially catching a lot of anchovies, shrimp, and prawns to serve the processing of the craft village, so that the quality of the shrimp products, fish sauce, dried and steamed products of the craft village in the commune can reach far into the market.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Xan (Chairman of the Quynh Di Commune Fisheries Association) said: “The annual fishing festival has become a traditional festival of the fishermen of Quynh Di Commune, we organize it every year. Everyone is excited and wishes for the festival to open, the mindset of each person working at sea feels more secure, more stable spirit to pray for a successful season”.
