On the evening of December 29th, at the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural Center, the play "The Square-leaved Banyan Tree" (script by Tran Kim Khoi, directed by Hoa Ha), about protecting maritime sovereignty, will officially premiere to the audience.

The play is a timely story about the struggle of fishermen to stay at sea and the skillful response of the forces tasked with protecting the security and sovereignty of the nation's maritime territories against "foreign vessels." "The Square-leaved Banyan Tree" is staged in a fresh and youthful style using musical theater. Familiar songs such as "In the Distant Islands," "So Close to Truong Sa," "The Homeland Seen from the Sea," "The Homeland Calls My Name," "The Vietnamese People," "The Southern Country's Mountains and Rivers," and the traditional folk song "The Call of the Homeland" are seamlessly incorporated into the play, evoking many emotions in the audience.

With a diverse cast including singers Hong Hanh and Quoc Dai, 2014 "Golden Bell of Traditional Vietnamese Music" winner Minh Truong, actors Van Trang, Chanh Truc, and Ba Cuong, and supermodel Minh Quan, director Hoa Ha has strategically placed the characters to showcase their strengths. After the premiere, the play will tour free of charge to schools and military units in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces.
