Tale of Kieu Russian translation |
The Tale of Kieu - a masterpiece of Nguyen Du, was translated into French in the late 19th century. Up to now, there have been more than 30 translations of The Tale of Kieu into more than 20 different languages such as French, English, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Hungarian, Polish, Czech, Finnish, Arabic, German, Bulgarian, Romanian, Spanish, Mongolian, Lao, Thai... On this occasion, the Russian translation of The Tale of Kieu was published at the Social Sciences Publishing House of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great poet Nguyen Du.
In her opening remarks, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi An said: Translating and publishing the Russian translation of the poem Truyen Kieu is the desire of many generations of Russian translators who are passionate about Truyen Kieu in particular, and Vietnamese scholars in general. With extraordinary efforts, after 2 years, the work Truyen Kieu with the specificity of medieval literary codes expressed in the density of historical allusions, with many verses imbued with the flavor of Vietnamese idioms, proverbs, and folk songs, and especially with a masterful poetic art (including the art of using language, melody, images, symbols) has been translated into Russian, published and reached Vietnamese readers today. The work has been told for decades… This must be said to be a great joy for Vietnamese and Russian literary researchers, for readers and for the translation group itself, an unexpected joy that seemed to have been promised, just as Nguyen Du once said: Only now do I see this, But my heart has been sure for days and two.

Nguyen Du with the Tale of Kieu has contributed to perfecting and innovating the Vietnamese language, making it pure and standard, although more than two centuries have passed, it is still pure and modern. In particular, the realistic value, artistic value and humanism of the Tale of Kieu have made the work live forever with time, making the Tale of Kieu a phenomenon that is forever new, forever attractive”.
Since the 1950s, the Soviet Union has favored Vietnamese literature by translating and publishing a series of Vietnamese literary works, from folk literature, classical literature, realistic literature and anti-invasion war literature. The works of President Ho Chi Minh and medieval authors such as Nguyen Trai, Ho Xuan Huong, Nguyen Huy Tu, Nguyen Gia Thieu... have all been published in Russian in large quantities.
