Going to Nghe An to sell drugs, the trio went straight to… prison
Being friends and taking the same drug addiction treatment, Thach and Tri decided to go drug trafficking together. On their drug trafficking journey, they both had the strong support of Hau.
On August 15, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a trial of three defendants, including Le Truong Thach (born in 1990) and Le Quang Hau (born in 1995), both residing in Tien Canh commune, Tien Phuoc district; Doan Tran Kim Tri (born in 1991), residing in Tien My commune, Tien Phuoc district (Quang Nam) for the crime of“Illegal drug trafficking”.
Thach and Tri were friends, knew each other, and took Methadone at the Tien Phuoc District Medical Center. Because he had lived and married in Tuong Duong District (Nghe An), Thach knew that there were drug dealers in this area.

Around the beginning of June 2023, Thach came to Tri's house and invited him to go to Nghe An to buy drugs to sell for profit. Tri agreed, then invited Hau to join.
On July 2, 2023, Hau and Thach took a bus from Quang Nam to Nghe An to buy drugs for Tri. The next day, through the money transfer service at the gold and silver shop, Tri transferred 120 million VND to Thach; including 100 million VND for buying drugs and 20 million VND that Thach borrowed to buy a motorbike to buy the "goods".
After buying the motorbike, Thach took Hau to Dua village, Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district to buy 1 cake of heroin from a man named Po (unknown background and address) for 100 million VND.
That same evening, Thach and Hau took the drugs and returned to Quang Nam by motorbike. While they were on the move, Nghe An police arrested them with more than 347 grams of drugs.
From the statements of Thach and Hau, on January 29, 2024, the police urgently arrested Doan Tran Kim Tri.
At the trial, the defendants confessed to their crimes as charged in the indictment. The three defendants asked the court to consider reducing their sentences.
The panel of judges determined that at the trial, the defendants admitted to drug trafficking. The defendants' testimonies were consistent with each other, with the testimonies of witnesses, related people, and other documents and evidence in the file, so there was sufficient basis to conclude that the defendants had committed the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
After considering the role of each defendant in the case, the panel sentenced Le Truong Thach and Doan Tran Kim Tri to 20 years in prison. Defendant Le Quang Hau received an 18-year prison sentence.
