These January days, many householdsbrackish water shrimp farmingIn Nghe An, commercial shrimp harvest continues to supply the market. Due to high demand, the price of commercial shrimp has increased significantly compared to the time before Tet.

Mr. Nguyen Cuong's family in Hamlet 2, Dien Trung Commune (Dien Chau) has 6 hectares of ponds for raising salted shrimp and pigs. Due to investing in shrimp farming using high technology and raising in many stages, the annual yield is high, especially the third crop of shrimp.

Mr. Cuong said that every year, during the Lunar New Year, the demand for commercial shrimp is high, so he invested in raising shrimp for the third crop on an area of 3 hectares of ponds. Before the last Tet holiday, his family sold about 15 tons of commercial shrimp.

"During Tet, the price of 20 shrimp/kg was 300,000 VND/kg, 30 shrimp/kg was 240,000 VND/kg... but after Tet, the price of 20 shrimp/kg increased to 330,000 VND/kg, and 30 shrimp/kg increased to 270,000 VND/kg. The reason for the increase in the price of commercial shrimp is because after Tet there was a shortage of goods, while market demand increased. From after Tet to February 17, the family sold 16 tons of shrimp, and it is expected that about 10 tons of shrimp will be sold until April 30. After that, they will continue to release shrimp for the main crop. With 6 hectares of ponds and lagoons, tens of billions of VND were invested in installing the systemhigh tech shrimp farming, so shrimp are raised in 4 stages, with a yield of over 20 tons/ha," said Mr. Cuong.

Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Chau district said: The whole district of Dien Chau has 160 hectares of shrimp ponds, of which nearly 70 hectares are invested in high-tech farming, in many stages. The high-tech farming areas are all used by farmers to raise shrimp in the third crop, with a yield of 20 tons/ha, with some households reaching 25 tons/ha. Because the shrimp in the third crop is sold at a much higher price than the shrimp in the main crop, especially after Tet, the households earn high profits.

Quynh Luu district has more than 500 hectares of shrimp ponds, but most of them are for the main crop. According to Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, shrimp farming areas that have not applied technology are unlikely to be successful in the third crop, so people rarely invest in farming. Only a few households in Quynh Bang and Quynh Luong communes invest in multi-stage indoor shrimp farming, which yields high productivity.

Currently, in the province, there are 70 establishments applying high-tech shrimp farming models, suitable for multi-stage shrimp farming with an area of 121 hectares, increasing productivity and product quality.

Investing in shrimp farming using high technology, not depending on the weather, can raise 5-6 batches each year, with a yield of 15-20 tons/ha. Therefore, applying high technology to shrimp farming is inevitable, in order to cope with climate change, environmental pollution, reduce input costs and improve the quality of shrimp products./.
