Tet bonus buzz
Before the New Year and more than a month and a half before the Lunar New Year, workers in all types of state agencies, foreign companies, and private enterprises are buzzing about Tet bonuses.
Almost every unit has a Tet bonus, the problem is whether the bonus is high or low. Of course, there are still units that do not have the funds for Tet bonuses, but have to use the Union Fund to "take care of Tet".

At the request of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, by mid-December, provinces and cities will report on the situation of Tet salary and bonus. Information from localities shows that the 2025 Tet bonus level has not changed much compared to the previous year, however, there is still a large difference in bonus levels.
This year, the highest Tet bonus for the Lunar New Year 2025 belongs to workers in Ho Chi Minh City, the highest bonus is 1.8 billion VND/person belongs to foreign-invested enterprises (FDI) and the lowest is 0.1 million VND belongs to private enterprises. The average bonus of workers in Ho Chi Minh City is about 3.4 million VND/person, lower than the survey results of 2024 (4.7 million VND/person).
In Long An province, the highest Tet bonus is 519 million VND/person. This bonus is lower than the highest bonus in this locality last year. Another locality with a high expected Tet bonus is Binh Duong province. By mid-December 2024, 1,771 enterprises in Binh Duong reported Tet bonus plans; of which, 1,676 enterprises have announced bonus plans, while 95 enterprises have not announced the bonus level. It is expected that the highest Tet bonus in Binh Duong will be 368 million VND/person, belonging to FDI enterprises. The highest Lunar New Year bonus is expected to be 375 million VND/person, also from FDI enterprises.
In Nghe An, according to a survey of businesses, the highest bonus for the Lunar New Year 2025 in the province is 74 million VND/person, the lowest is 300 thousand VND/person. According to forecasts, the average bonus for the Lunar New Year 2025 nationwide is expected to reach 8.77 million VND/person, applied to employees who work for 12 months in a year. However, many units, localities, and businesses have not been able to announce the Tet bonus.
Announcing a Tet bonus or not is not mandatory, but depends on the budget balance of each unit and enterprise. Therefore, whether the Tet bonus is high or low, or whether it exists or not is something that each employee needs to share with the unit they work for. Like general schools, they do not have a fund to pay Tet bonuses, only the 13th month salary according to the State's regulations, so schools have to use the Trade Union Fund to "take care of Tet". Many years ago, teachers in the mountainous areas only received a "Tet bonus" of 100,000 VND. But then "Tet is over"!
In related developments, many banks and some financial companies have launched loan packages for Tet spending, while businesses and sales channels have launched installment sales, such as: “Even if the wallet is not “thick”, Tet is still full…”. Many people think that it is easy to borrow now, but it is difficult to pay back! Well, like farmers, who will give them Tet bonuses, besides plowing deep and hoeing hard in the fields!
