'Real Madrid will be disappointed to lose in La Liga'

Barca captain Andres Iniesta believes that despite the Champions League title they just won, Real cannot be satisfied with last season.

Before the recent Champions League final where Real beat Atletico to win the title, Cristiano Ronaldo said that this title would be much more meaningful than Barca's domestic double (La Liga and Copa del Rey).

However, Iniesta, in an interview with Cadena Ser radio channel on May 30, disagreed with that view.

"Real lifted the Champions League, but they will be disappointed not to win La Liga. Therefore, Barca fans and the players themselves should be proud of what the team achieved last season," said the Barca captain.

Barca only won La Liga last season in the final round, after a thrilling race with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. But in the Champions League, they could not defend their title when they fell to compatriot Atletico in the quarter-finals. However, Iniesta is not too sad about this.

"Of course, losing the Champions League is a big setback, but next year we will fight to win it back. However, we will still celebrate regardless of whether Real Madrid win the Champions League or not. We only celebrate our victories, are happy with our successes and sad with our failures," the 32-year-old midfielder emphasized.

Looking back on last season, Iniesta believes the team's positive response after a slump in April was the key to Barca's success in La Liga.

"It's hard to pinpoint what made this season more difficult than the first season under Luis Enrique, although we had some moments of doubt. But this year, the team really stagnated in April, when things suddenly became complicated. The team faced a challenge, and the question of whether we could overcome and show a winning spirit, when La Liga was really difficult. And we did it," he shared.
