Real Madrid plans to sell Bale to clear the way to buy Mbappe

Coach Zidane believes that Mbappe will make Real's attack crowded, and the team needs to sacrifice a player in the BBC trio.

Marca reported that in a meeting in mid-July, Monaco representatives, President Dmitri Rybolovlev and Vice President Vadim Vasilyev, requested $210 million for the 18-year-old striker.

This starting figure for negotiations did not deter President Florentino Perez and Real General Director Jose Angel Sanchez. Real asked Monaco to reduce the price, and offered a more reasonable payment plan such as 170 million upfront and the rest with other terms. Although the plan has not been agreed upon, the two sides' views, according to Marca, are said to have come closer together.

Monaco offered a price close to Neymar's buyout fee. After seeing PSG make a record deal, Monaco seemed to want to follow suit to earn more from Real. The team also offered a clause of $28 million in case Mbappe won the Ballon d'Or while at Real. However, the Bernabeu team did not accept that condition.

Besides financial reasons, Real has not really decided to buy Mbappe because of coach Zidane. The French coach affirmed his determination to keep the dressing room balanced and did not want to have four attacking stars: Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale and Mbappe.

This summer saw James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata leave Real. However, that did not seem to faze Zidane. The coach only needs three key attackers, and allows the likes of Marco Asensio and Isco to come on when the opportunity arises. This way of operating avoids intense competition, and is not as beneficial to the common goal as when James Rodriguez stayed.

Therefore, if Real's board of directors is determined to buy Mbappe, a member of the BBC attacking trio will have to leave. With limited contribution due to injuries last season, according to Marca, Bale is the player most likely to leave. If they sell the Welsh star, Real can easily get at least $100 million from English giants Man Utd or Chelsea.

In a recent interview in the US, Bale once again emphasized his desire to stay with Real for a long time. However, the 28-year-old player has gradually accepted the fact that in the BBC trio, he is the weakest. Bale's career at Real has been interrupted by injuries over the past four years, and he is not a favorite player like Benzema, or a number one player like Ronaldo.

Marca believes that if Bale is sold back to England, Real will start to negotiate with Monaco again. The Madrid team needs to speed up this deal because their potential competitor is their arch-rival Barca. The Catalan team has cash on hand after selling Neymar and is willing to spend a lot to have a quality replacement player like Mbappe.
