Real Madrid confirms Mourinho will leave Bernabeu on June 1st.
Early this morning, Vietnam time, Real Madrid held a press conference chaired by President Florentino Perez, announcing that Jose Mourinho will leave the White Eagles after the end of this season.
Mourinho's relationship with Real Madrid has ended.
Jose Mourinho has agreed to terminate his contract with Real Madrid after a disappointing season, a campaign that the Portuguese manager himself described as the worst of his managerial career.
Real Madrid's board of directors convened an emergency meeting solely focused on Mourinho's future and subsequently held a press conference to announce the departure of the former Inter Milan coach.
Frank Sinatra's song "My Way" was played on Real Madrid's official website before a live stream of President Perez beginning his press conference.
Perez said: "The club and the manager agree that this is the right time to end the relationship between the two sides. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Jose Mourinho for what he has done for the club over the past three years. The team has improved over the past three years, and I send him my best wishes."
This season's performance hasn't met the demands of a team like Real Madrid or a coach like Mourinho. All coaches have their own personalities. Does he sometimes make mistakes? Absolutely. Perez also stated that Mourinho received no compensation whatsoever for leaving Real, therefore the clause stipulating that the Portuguese strategist would pocket £17 million in compensation in the event of his dismissal is invalid.
The claim that Iker Casillas being benched was the main reason for Real Madrid's departure from Jose Mourinho was also denied by Flo Perez: "Regarding the decisions he made, such as benching Iker - he is our coach and he has the right to decide."
Although the Los Blancos president insists he hasn't contacted any coach yet, Real are reportedly waiting for Carlo Ancelotti, who is looking to leave the newly crowned Ligue 1 champions, PSG. Meanwhile, the decision to leave Real is paving the way for Jose Mourinho's return to Chelsea.
