Mahrez - an Algerian - is only the second non-European player to win the award. The first wasLuis Suarez, in 2014 when he was still playing for Liverpool. Unlike the Uruguayan striker,Mahrez was virtually unknown when he moved to England to play for Leicester two years ago. His transfer fee at the time was less than a million dollars.
However, in a season that will be remembered for a long time in football history, he and his teammates are working miracles. Leicesterare currently eight points ahead of second-placed Tottenham, who are playing in round 35 with only three games left.
