The awards ceremony will be held in New York in April 2015. The Motion Picture Association of New York, which organizes the annual New York Film Festival, stated that "it is difficult to overstate Redford's impact on the film industry."
This award is given to some of the most outstanding talents in the film industry. Previous winners include Martin Scorsese, Alfred Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, and more recently, Barbra Streisand and Nicole Kidman.
Charlie Chaplin, the king of comedy, was the first artist to be honored. The award subsequently bore his name.
Redford's latest film is All is Lost, and his performance in it received resounding applause from the audience when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
