Military plane crash in Algeria, more than 100 people killed

The plane crashed in the mountainous area of ​​Oum El Bouaghi province, about 500 km from the capital Algiers.

Reuters quoted a source from the private television station Ennarha (Algeria) as saying that a C130 Hercules military transport plane carrying relatives of members of the Algerian armed forces crashed in the east of the country on February 11, killing all 103 people on board.

According to the source, the plane crashed in the mountainous area of ​​Oum El Bouaghi province, about 500 km from the capital Algiers.

Meanwhile, a senior military official told Algeria's official APS news agency that 99 passengers and four crew members were on board the crashed plane. However, the death toll "has not yet been determined".

Colonel Lahmadi Bouguern also said that bad weather and strong winds could be the main causes of this tragic accident.

The ill-fated military transport plane took off from Tamanrasset province in southern Algeria and was planning to land in the eastern city of Constantine, APS said.

The February 11 plane crash is said to be the worst in Algeria since 2003, when an Air Algerie jet crashed shortly after takeoff from Tamanrasset, killing 102 people./.
