Military plane crashes in Algeria, over 100 killed.

The plane crashed in the mountainous region of Oum El Bouaghi province, about 500 km from the capital Algiers.

Reuters, citing the private Algerian television station Ennarha, reported that a C130 Hercules military transport plane carrying relatives of Algerian armed forces members crashed in eastern Algeria on February 11, killing all 103 people on board.

According to the source, the plane crashed in the mountainous region of Oum El Bouaghi province, about 500 km from the capital Algiers.

Meanwhile, a senior military official told Algeria's official news agency APS that there were 99 passengers and 4 crew members on board the ill-fated plane. However, the death toll "has not yet been determined".

Colonel Lahmadi Bouguern also stated that bad weather and strong winds were likely the main causes of this tragic accident.

The ill-fated military transport plane took off from Tamanrasset province in southern Algeria and was scheduled to land in the eastern city of Constantine, APS said.

The plane crash on February 11th is believed to be the worst accident in Algeria since 2003, when an Algerian Airlines jet crashed shortly after takeoff from Tamanrasset, killing 102 people.
