Roland Garros Day 3: Seeded players drop like ripe fruit.
Following the shock elimination of Wawrinka, the third seed, the third day of Roland Garros continued to witness further surprises as Li Na, Dimitrov, Almagro, and others were also knocked out.
Yesterday could be called a day of elimination for the seeded players. First and most shocking was the stumble of Li Na, the tournament's second seed and considered Serena Williams' biggest rival. Her opponent was the home player Kristina Mladenovic. Kristina defeated Li Na 7-5 in the first set, then lost 3-6 in the second. However, in the third set, with the enthusiastic support of the home crowd and a minor injury to Li Na, Kristina won convincingly 6-1 to advance to the second round.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Li Na said tearfully, “I can’t believe I’ve been eliminated. I worked so hard in training and had high hopes for this tournament. However, as you can see, I was unlucky with my shots today, and Kristina went onto the court with incredible enthusiasm.”
Also yesterday, another Chinese female tennis player, Shuai Peng, lost 0-2 to the 15th seed from the US, Sloane Stephens. Meanwhile, the 13th seed Caroline Wozniacki lost 1-2 to the lesser-known Belgian opponent Yanina Wickmayer.
