Cristiano Ronaldo wore the captain's armband in the match against Austria in the second round of Group F of Euro 2016. This was the 128th match of the striker born in 1985, helping him break Luis Figo's record of 127 matches, becoming the player who has appeared in the team nicknamed Seleccao the most.
Ronaldo made his debut for Portugal as a substitute in a 1-0 win over Kazakhstan in August 2003. After 13 years, he has contributed 58 goals to the team and his greatest success was reaching the runner-up position at Euro 2004 (losing 0-1 to Greece).
On the day he broke Figo's record, Ronaldo was the villain. He missed a penalty in the 79th minute, leading Portugal to a 0-0 draw with Austria at the Parc des Princes. Austrian fans teased the Portuguese captain by chanting the name of Lionel Messi, his greatest rival.
After the above situation, Ronaldo once put the ball into the Austrian net but the goal was not recognized, the referee determined that there was an offside error. CR7 still has not scored a goal in France to become the first player in history to score in four different Euros.
Portugal are a big disappointment, having only got two points from two matches against Iceland and Austria, opponents who were rated much lower. In the final match of the group stage, coach Fernando Santos's team will face Hungary.
