Ronaldo shines, scores 901st goal to help Portugal come back against Scotland
Cristiano Ronaldo continued to shine when he scored a late goal to help Portugal come from behind to beat Scotland 2-1 in the Nations League.
Ronaldo rescues Portugal again
At the Stadium of Light, Scotland were hoping to claim their first win over Portugal since 1980 when they took a seventh-minute lead through Scott McTominay's header. However, the visitors were denied the result they wanted as Cristiano Ronaldo once again came to Portugal's rescue.
"His influence is always the same, regardless of whether he starts on the bench or not," Bruno Fernandes, who played his 600th career game, said of his former United team-mate.
"Everyone who came on made a difference. Cristiano scored a goal. Today he scored his 901st goal and now he is on his way to 1,000 goals."

After conceding the goal, Portugal responded by laying siege to the Scottish goal. Goalkeeper Angus Gunn made a series of saves, one of which was a world-class save to deny Rafael Leao.
But in the 54th minute, Gunn was defeated. From Leao's back pass, Fernandes shot with a tricky left foot into the Scottish net to equalize the score 1-1.
Also in the second half, Ronaldo was brought in from the bench and he inspired his teammates. In the 88th minute, the 39-year-old player had an accurate close-range shot to seal a 2-1 comeback for Portugal.
With this result, Portugal continues to maintain the top position in Group A of the 2024/2025 Nations League. Meanwhile, Scotland is at the bottom of the table with two consecutive losses. Even more sadly, they have conceded in the 85th minute or later in 5/6 of their recent matches in all competitions.
