As previously reported, Cheshire police have announced the temporary detention of Wayne Rooney for driving under the influence of alcohol. The former England captain has been released on bail, but will appear in court for a hearing on September 18th.

"The man was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. today, Friday, September 1st, after police stopped a black VW Beetle on Altrincham Road in Wilmslow," police stated.

According to The Sun, the black VW Beetle belongs to a female office worker named Laura Simpson. She claims to have had "10 crazy hours" with Rooney at a bar, after which the Everton player drove them all home. Laura Simpson revealed that Rooney was "angry and anxious" when police pulled him out of the car. If this information is true, Rooney could be in trouble with his pregnant wife, Coleen.

Rooney and Everton have not commented on the matter. The 31-year-old striker could face a $414,000 fine from Everton and a suspension from the next match by manager Ronald Koeman.

Before bringing Rooney back to Goodison Park, Koeman told the former Man Utd player that he wanted him to be a role model for the younger players. And the English striker pledged to live up to his manager's expectations. But with this transgression, Rooney has broken that promise.

Koeman praised Rooney after the 1-1 draw against Man City, saying he quickly became a leader in the Everton dressing room after returning from Man Utd.
