Rooney scores second consecutive goal, Man City share points at Etihad
Rooney opened the scoring in the latest match of round two of the Premier League: Everton drew 1-1 with Man City.
Goals: Sterling 82' - Rooney 35'
The Everton striker opened the scoring with a one-touch shot after receiving a pass from Calvert-Lewin on the right flank. The ball hit both goalkeeper Ederson and the Man City post before going into the goal.
This is the second goal in two consecutive matches that Rooney has scored for Everton. The first goal came in the Premier League opening match on August 12, also helping Everton beat Stoke City 1-0.

If Man City hadn't had Raheem Sterling equalize in the 82nd minute, Everton could have taken all three points at the Etihad Stadium. The English winger saved the home team with an unstoppable volley from 15 meters, while the entire opposing defense as well as goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could only watch the ball fly into the corner of the net.
Earning only one point against Everton may have been a completely unexpected result for Man City. With overwhelming attack, the Etihad team not only dominated the game but also created many opportunities in front of the opponent's goal. Goalkeeper Pickford had to punch the ball away after Otamendi's long-range shot, before Phil Jagielka cleared the ball right on the goal line to deny Sergio Aguero a European finish.
David Silva and Gabriel Jesus also threatened Everton's goal with a shot that went just wide of the post and a finish straight at Pickford.

Man City had to play with 10 men for the whole second half after Walker received a red card. |
Rooney's surprise opener was the start of Everton's turnaround, with City soon finding themselves 10-11 down when Kyle Walker was shown a second yellow card in the 44th minute.
Man City tried to regain the upper hand after the break but could not maintain it for too long against Ronald Koeman's team. By sending in Davy Klaassen and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Everton played a very effective counter-attacking defense.
The visitors only lost two points thanks to Mason Holgate's mistake. After Holgate's header cleared the ball in the box, Sterling seized the opportunity to equalize for Man City.

Everton also had to finish the match with 10 players like the home team. Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin received a second yellow card in the 88th minute after a foul on Aguero.
With the draw at the Etihad, Man City and Everton are both on four points after two games, along with Watford, Liverpool and Southampton. This group is just behind the three teams with all six points, including Man Utd, Huddersfield Town and West Brom.
