More than four months after the scandal broke, the Everton striker spoke for the first time about the evening he spent with Laura Simpson while his wife was away.

The incident happened on September 1st when Rooney was driving Laura Simpson's VW Beetle when he was stopped by police for drunk driving. The 32-year-old striker had his license suspended for two months and was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service within a year. The incident also caused turmoil in Shrek's marriage, and his wife recently forgave him.

When the dust settled, Rooney spoke for the first time about the unforgettable evening on Talksport. "Sometimes you make mistakes. I knew straight away I had made a stupid mistake and I had to move on. It's not good, I have children and I don't want them to see that. I have to get up and do it again and learn from my mistakes," said the Everton striker.

Rooney said he happily accepted the community service sentence and intended to continue working voluntarily after completing his sentence.

While Rooney and his wife were in turmoil over the scandal, Laura Simpson took advantage of a time she shared a car with Shrek to become famous and make money. The beautiful barmaid was invited to interviews and even put her VW Beetle up for sale for £12,500, although its real value was only around £2,500.
