Rosgvardiya will be responsible for protecting the world's first floating nuclear power plant "Akademik Lomonosov" which will be towed to the port of Pevek in the Chukotka autonomous region in 2019.

The head of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya), Viktor Zolotov, first mentioned this at the Rosgvardiya review meeting at the end of 2018. He also stressed the attention of the council members to the large number of tasks to strengthen the protection of objects in the Arctic region, in particular, the piers of nuclear power plants in the ports of the Northern Sea Route.
Akademik Lomonosov - the world's first floating nuclear power plant with a capacity of -70 MW. The construction of the FNPP on the basis of a floating power unit with the installation of two KLT-40S reactors was carried out within the framework of an agreement signed between Rosenergoatom and the Baltic Shipyard in 2012.
As stated in an interview, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Transport and Environmental Affairs Sergey Ivanov said that floating nuclear power plants, in addition, help solve the problem of desalination. Referring to the opinion of scientists, he emphasized that "a floating nuclear power plant can easily get fresh water from the ocean itself, which is a completely new resource for the world."
